A Career Management Model

The Career Management Model below provides you with a structured framework that helps you to identify where you are in terms of your career journey and also outlines the processes and strategies you can use to effectively manage your career development over time. Here’s a general overview of a five-stage Career Management Model:

Self-Assessment
  • Objective: To understand personal strengths, weaknesses, values, interests, and goals.
  • Activities:
    • Identify Skills and Interests: Reflect on your skills, interests, and passions. Tools like personality tests, skills assessments, and career inventories can be useful.
    • Set Career Goals: Determine short-term and long-term career goals based on your self-assessment.
    • Evaluate Work Preferences: Consider the type of work environment, job roles, and industries that align with your personal values and lifestyle preferences.
Exploration
  • Objective: To research and evaluate career options and opportunities that align with your self-assessment.
  • Activities:
    • Research Career Paths: Investigate potential careers that match your skills, interests, and values.
    • Network: Connect with professionals in your fields of interest through networking events, informational interviews, and online platforms like LinkedIn.
    • Gain Experience: Pursue internships, volunteer opportunities, or part-time jobs in areas of interest to gain practical experience.
Decision-Making

  • Activities:
